Security One Service Area & Coverage Map

Security One Overview

Security One is a company with several locations and offices across the United States. They offer their products and services in all 48 states in the continental U.S., but not in Alaska and Hawaii.

Security One offers several monitoring options, and although they don't show their pricing online, they provide appropriate information on what's included in their monitoring plans. Their plans include 24/7 professional monitoring, home automation, and video surveillance features. They also offer free equipment if you sign up for long-term monitoring.

Why They're Different

Security One claims they are different because they "offer additional points of coverage, top quality-manufactured wireless equipment, and a non-invasive installation at more affordable rates." While these claims sound legitimate, the features are actually not as unique as they made it to be. Other alarm companies offer the same features. Nonetheless, those are good features, so while Security One doesn't stand out from the rest of their competition, they still provide high-quality equipment and services.

Security One Equipment Overview

Security One provides equipment manufactured by GE and Honeywell. In addition, they offer smart home products from Alarm.com. Every Security One system starts with a control panel. They offer a Simon XTi control panel that includes a touchscreen interface, an intuitive menu that allows easy setting and testing, and support for up to 40 wireless zones. All these mean that the system is versatile, flexible, and expandable.

Aside from the control panel, Security One offers:

  • Secondary Touchscreen Keypads
  • Micro Door/Window Sensors
  • Motion Sensors
  • Image Sensors
  • Smoke & Heat Sensors
  • Glass Break Sensors
  • Carbon Monoxide Sensors
  • Wireless Indoor Cameras
  • Light & Appliance Module
  • Panic Pendant
  • Wireless Door Locks
  • Keychain Remotes

One thing we noticed about their equipment is that they are a little dated. Although Security One makes it seem like they are offering the latest in the home security industry, their products are actually behind a few years. The emPower Thermostat and wireless indoor camera that they offer, for example, have been discontinued by their manufacturer, Alarm.com.

Security One Monitoring Overview

As for monitoring, Security One provides four monitoring plan options, and all four of them include 24/7 monitoring. Monitoring is done by professionals. Security One has a dedicated central alarm station where trained operators stand by and wait for alerts to be sent. If your system does send an alert to the station, an operator will can and check on you. If they verify that you need help, they can send the police of even the fire department.

Unlike traditional alarm companies, Security One doesn't need landline to work. Their security systems send alerts either via broadband signal (dependent on your Wi-Fi network and internet connection) or cellular signal, the same type of signal your phone uses to place calls and send SMS.

In addition to professional monitoring, Security One's monitoring plans include smartphone access, home automation features, and video surveillance.

  • 24/7 Professional Monitoring
  • Police & Fire Department Dispatch
  • Smart Home Automation
  • Video Surveillance
  • Smartphone Access

Security One Customer Service Overview

About customer service, Security One has a phone line that puts users in direct contact to the company's customer support. However, they have the same phone number for sales and support, which is not a good indication. Companies with a similar setup often end up having a reputation of being sales-centered. For example, even if you're already a customer, they might still offer you additional products instead of simply answering your questions if you call their customer support.

If you'd rather find the answer to your questions on your own, you may also check out Security One's FAQ.

Regarding the quality of their customer service, Security One holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, has won an Angie's List Super Service Award, and is rated well on consumer review websites. However, there are recurring complaints regarding billing and contracts.
