Scout Monitoring Plans Explained

Scout's security systems were built for subscription-free self-monitoring, but they also offer subscription-based professional and self-monitoring plans starting at $9.99/month.

Their monitoring plans are called Always On and Always On+. Always On is a self-monitoring plan with a monthly rate of $9.99, while Always On+ includes professional monitoring and has a $19.99 monthly charge. Aside from the fact that one plan is self-monitored and the other plan's monitoring is done by professionals, there's very little difference between Always On and Always On+. Both plans include:

  • 4G LTE Cellular Backup
  • Email Notifications
  • Scout App Access
  • Push Notifications
  • SMS Alerts

The only other difference is camera monitoring. Always On doesn't support Scout's cameras. If you wish to add cameras, there's an additional $2.99/month fee per camera. Always On+, on the other hand, supports one camera for free, but your second and consecutive cameras will incur a $2.99/month fee as well.

Other Fees You Should Know About

The beauty of contract-free security systems is that there are no penalties for cancelling or moving. This is very different from traditional alarm companies that charge an early termination fee if you cancel without finishing the contract term or moving fee if you move to a new residence. With Scout, there are truly only two fees you need to pay: the equipment fee, which is paid upfront, and the monitoring fee, which is paid monthly. However, you will need to maintain a working internet connection as the system required internet to generate alerts.

Ways To Save

Getting a security system can be expensive, but thankfully, there are several ways to lower your equipment and monitoring fees with Scout.

Buy Over $200 In Equipment

Our first tip is to buy over $200 in equipment to take advantage of Scout's free shipping offer. If your order is over $200, they will ship it to you without any other charges.

Buy In Bulk

The idea of being able to expand your security system one sensor at a time is nice, but instead of buying a couple of sensors every time, why not just buy them all at once? It's a great way to save on shipping fees and Scout occasionally throws in discounts to bulk equipment purchases.

Pay For The Whole Year

If you're planning on using Scout with a monitoring plan long-term, it would save you a few bucks if you pay yearly rather than monthly. For example, the $19.99 Always On+ plan only costs $215/year. That's over $20 in savings per year or more than $2 savings per month.
