Based in Pittsburgh , Guardian was founded in the 1950s, originally as a company that installs security systems for jewelry stores. It only started focusing on home security systems in the 1970s. Within the span of almost 50 years offering home security systems, Guardian has expanded its market. It now serves the states of Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas

Why They're Different

Guardian Protection Services is unique because even though it's a small company, it has been recognized by some of the most reputable authorities. It holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau,1 it's an Angie's List Super Service Award Winner, it was chosen as the CSAA Central Station of the Year in 2015, and it was the first alarm company to win the SDM Magazine's Security Company of the Year for two years: in 1999 and 2013.

Guardian also offers what it calls Family of Guarantees. This is a list of guarantees and promises Guardian gives to its customers as well as the compensation they will provide if they fail. For example, if there's any operational problem in your security system that isn't fixed in 6 months following the installation, you'll get a full refund of your installation and monthly monitoring fee.

Who's It For?

Before even considering Guardian Protection Services as your home security provider, you must first make sure that they offer services in your area.

Guardian is best suited for homeowners and renters looking for a company to serve them for the next 3 to 5 years because it requires a long-term contract with a strict early termination policy. That said, if you have any plan to move out within the next few years, we advise against choosing Guardian unless you're moving to a new location serviceable by them. Moving outside Guardian's service coverage is considered early termination and you could be hit with a hefty termination fee.

Guardian is also an ideal option for those looking to make their homes smart. Thanks to Alarm.com's backing, Guardian is able to offer a full-suite of automation equipment.

Key Features & Tech

Here are some of the key features offered by Guardian that set them apart from most of the competition:

Mobile App Access

Guardian Protection Services offers a mobile app to all its customers, even those subscribed to the cheapest monitoring plan available. The app is powered by Alarm.com, the same company that powers Frontpoint and Link Interactive's mobile app. The app holds 4/5 stars on Google Play and 4.4/5 stars on iTunes.

Home Automation

Another feature made possible through Alarm.com's backing is home automation. With Guardian, you can add smart lights, locks, power outlets, garage door controllers, thermostats, and other home automation products to your home. Everything can be controlled using the included touchscreen control panel or the Guardian smartphone app.

Quality Home Installation Guarantee

Guardian requires professional installation, which will cost you. However, unlike other companies, Guardian guarantees that your system will be installed properly. If they fail to correct any operational problem with any professionally installed equipment within the first 6 months, you'll get a full refund of the installation fee.

Home Theft Protection Guarantee

With the Home Theft Protection Guarantee, Guardian promises to keep you safe from home thefts. If you're burglarized while under Guardian's protection, you can get up to $500 reimbursement toward your insurance deductible.

Price Match Guarantee

If, after getting a quote from Guardian, you get a better offer from another company for the base equipment package, Guardian will match their price. This doesn't apply to the monthly monitoring fee; only the basic equipment package including the control panel, three door/window sensors, one motion sensor, a yard sign, and window decals.

Armed Forces Appreciation Program

If you're a member of the military and you receive a relocation order while under contract with Guardian, you have two options. First, you can temporarily suspend your contract and resume the service once you move back to an area serviceable by Guardian. Second, you can cancel your monitoring contract free of any penalty.
